Sannom here, with a little question for all of you! But first of all, allow me to explain the situation to you before you place a vote.
Recently, we, the staff team, have discussed the matter about bringing back customised sprites for staff-- but here’s the twist. We are also considering giving a chance to players in obtaining such a personalised sprite. Here’s the idea: Players who will contribute for content that will find itself in-game might get their hands on one. This could include many things, ranging from stupendous efforts and quality in the MFAP project, or perhaps in a spriting contest where a winner will be declared, whose sprite will be incorporated in-game, in addition to their customised sprite.
I think it’s a good idea, a reward for helping out PMU and it dosent give people any more of an advantage over eachother, plus it could help convince some people to help out then PMU’s devolepment may increase quite a bit. I see several good things that could come out of this for example
Money Donations
These could keep the server running, plus if PMU gets a great enough surplus amount of money there could be a new server thats improved or multiple ones etc(I prefer 1 server, just because then everyone is in the same “world”)
Sprites
With this, people might be more encouraged to help/join the MFAP, and thus PMU will have all the sprites needed for dungeons and their release dates.
It also makes people have more to do in the game, so this idea has the potential to also make more people like the game and get others to try it.
EDIT forgot to mention, also adds abit more personality to the players sprite.
You see, if we had adding sprites. Players would think that meant “Oh my lord, they’re taking custom sprites? I wanna be a Keldeo with a top hat and Monicle!” Well, now. Only I would choose that, but still. That’s probably what they’re thinking. So more likely than not you’re going to get a bunch of Custom Sprites requests, or sprites from “1st in party walking sprites” in HG/SS. But, that’s just my opinion.
I’m kind of for this, but I’m against it too. Sure, I’d love to have a Mareep with shades in-game, but at the same time I’m not sure. It has its pros and its cons, and I think there’s more cons than pros.
Cons
Distribution - Most of the reason I’m unsure this because of how we’d distribute the sprites. Just giving them out like candy is a definite nono. Placing them in dungeons as an one time use item to ‘dye’ your Pokemon’s fur / skin would be more fair than giving them as prizes in contests and such. Some people aren’t as skilled with sprites as others, making it impossible for them to ever get a custom sprite.
Shiny Pokemon - Will shinies cease to exist with the addition of this? It’d be kind of weird for shinies to be added in the future, and be as rare as they are in the main games. You’d spend hours hunting for a shiny Pokemon, while someone else has a ‘custom’ sprite that resembles said shiny. Unless shinies had some other bonus (that isn’t the sparkling effect when they come out), I’d say shinies just cease to exist.
Pros
Individuality - The main reason I support this idea is because it’ll add more imagination and individuality among the players. Rather than everyone just having a normally coloured Pokemon, some can have their own customly coloured or accessorized Pokemon.
I support the idea for some other reasons too, but I can’t get my thoughts together fully. Just know that I’m unsure, but somewhat leaning toward supporting.
so its going to be like pikahat/turtwig mask / you know what i mean except with custom sprites instead???
(reminds me of PF) (<- so many possibilities of pf)
Edit: why does it keep on showing blackfang773 in front of the / after turtwig mask?
Well, I like this idea, but the I think it’s kinda unfair to the normal players because they might complain and they won’t be able to get it. Also, I was wondering would custom sprites work as a partner egg?
This sounds like a fun and creative, as well as a productive way to engage the community in helping with the In-Game needs. :'D
It would be cool if there were spriting contests like the bi-annual mapping contest based on a certain Pokemon and players have to make sprites for that Pokemon.
Ontruesoul said, not everyone is good at making sprites and that may seem unfair, but not everyone is good at mapping as well. Practice, practice, practice.
It’s a good thing to limit players on what they can do, I totally agree with that. You might be seeing spaceship Dugtrios soon. (lol). I think it’s a wonderful idea, but I’m not 100% sure on it at the moment. c:
