Downloading the Game

Hello! I haven’t been on PMU in awhile, however, I got a new laptop! Woohoo, right?! Yet, when i download the game the game will not open at all for some odd reason??? It’s quite weird. When i go to download it theres several download link things, and I honestly don’t know which one to download. I have been using the purple one, but should i download the green one!?!? please help :o.ol: :o.ol: :o.ol: :o.ol: :o.ol:

Hi! You’re probably clicking on the right link, as that’s the link I clicked on to download PMU… so I know next to nothing about what the cause could be. :’: But, just in case, why not check to see if you meet all the requirements for downloading it? (Such as having Frameworks.)

Okay, here’s a little clarification.

“Download Installer” is the one you want. It’ll download an app that will let you install the game.

“Download Source” and the stuff underneath that is for those who want to edit and play around with the PMU source in their own servers and whatnot, probably what you’re not looking for.

In case clicking the image is not letting you download the installer, here is the link:
http://pmuniverse.net/Downloads/Installer.exe

If the installer is not fully working, make sure you are running it with Administrator privileges and with the latest Microsoft Frameworks, preferably 4.0 or higher, which you can find here:

Any other questions? :)

I already have that installer version 4.0 or higher (or so it says). I’m on a Razer computer actually so its pretty decked out for internet games. I just don’t know why only PMU isn’t working. I’ll download it again, and I’ll come back to this message box and relay what the message says when I click on it. Ok I’m back. It says “PMU is-” OK I WENT TO TRY TO COPY AND PASTE WHAT IT SAID IN THE MESSAGE AND OKAY LET ME EXPLAIN WHAT JUST HAPPENED. The message box said something like “could not find pmu.exe, would u like to browse for the file” or something like that. It always said that on this computer. Also the shortcut image for it was a blank white piece of paper. (Sorry if my grammar is now obstructing your comprehension I’m just so excited). Anyways, when I went to copy the text it like extended the window and it said something like “Blah blah blah pmu.exe cannot open the file or cannot find the extracted file blah blah balh” BUT AFTER THE TEXT were three clickable options “Fix it. Delete it. Cancel” so i thought “umm Fix it.?” and i clicked “Fix It.” then the pmu client opened up and i did all the updates yatta yatta. So uh, i went into detail for both the admin and any other users in case they are having the same problem! (Mainly this is due to my computer having the program system of not allowing any pop-ups haha, I have to actually open everything in new windows- it prevents any virus like 6 ever). I will test logging in and if i don’t respond then I’m running well!! :joy:  :joy:  :joy:  :joy:  :joy:  :!: :!: :!!: :!!: :!!: :joy:

Your grammar is no problem… but could you please space out your text with the Enter button? It’s difficult to read. Sorry. (I"m old… kinda not really. I just have really bad vision. Really bad.)

What anti-virus do you have? It may have deleted something that interferes with the client if you did a successful install. If you have Kaspersky or Norton, there are some older support threads you can search up for if you’re having trouble with it. (PMU has no viruses, I’m sure you know, but anti-viruses like to target unfamiliar files and those with uncommon file extensions.)

If the anti virus isn’t a problem and the installer just doesn’t seem to be working, try this client:

Is Razer the type of computer you are using or the operating system?

It’s a type of computer more suited to gaming. It runs Windows.

I have windows operating system.
Also, my anti-virus is Webroot.
So no, its not deleting anything.
However, more news!
Earlier my game crashed, and so i had to re-open it, but this time it didn’t do the fix-it thing.
So when i clicked it, I hit browse, and i had no idea what to open it with… So i browsed through client and found a file just labeled PMU wiht the symbol, and it seems to work :)
Hope that helps anyone now!

Now for further elaboration.
I thought “hmm…” and decided to delete the shortcut and just go to the client file and drag the program itself onto desktop. But when i click it now it just says “windows has closed the program” right away (pop-up blocker). So i put the program back into the file.
Instead, I clicked the PMU program file, then selected create shortcut. Now everything looks like it should, and runs fine!
sorry if all these updates bother you, I’m just trying to give answers to those whom might need it in the future.

Since you’ve beat me to it, here’s the summary of the issue and the solution:

The Issue
The PMU desktop shortcut doesn’t install properly on Windows 8, most likely due to minor changes in the OS. It works fine on Windows 7, however.

The Solution

  1. Go to PMU’s installation directory (C:\Program Files\Pokemon Mystery Universe\Client by default)
  2. Find the file titled PMU or PMU.exe (If you have 'Show file extensions disabled, you’ll only see “PMU”)
  3. Right Click the file
  4. Select “Send to Desktop (Create Shortcut)”

This bug will be fixed when the installer is updated, which we’ll get to once higher priority things are dealt with first.
