I’ve supposedly heard that the items disappeared after you edited the house. Don’t edit a house when you have items on the floor. Anyways, you should never leave items on the floor. There is no rule against taking items on the floor. You should instead lock yourself in blocks, then drop the items so nobody can swipe them.
There is also an even beter way to sell, buy or trade.
you can use the /trade command to prevent people stealing your items.
