Nyrias edit: The keys in this dungeon are scripted and sometimes are unreliable at spawning, so it’s possible it can happen to you, just be aware of the possibility. We’ve had a few instances of it.

-Overview:

Tanren Chambers (or TC for short), is a group of seventeen chambers, each chamber has a particular style that refers to a specific elemental type of Pokemon, showing all of its mightiness as well as its weak points sometimes.

This group of the seventeen chambers formed one of the toughest dungeons in PMU, a dungeon of Ninety-nine floors with seventeen different endings, depending on the chamber you ended with.

How to switch between chambers?

Stair_Locks
On certain floors, you find keys called ‘Tanren Keys’ which used to open some locked stairs with eight slots, one is marked with a red dot that shows a certain direction, this direction leads to a particular chamber depends on the current chamber you are in. (Look at the map).

TC_Map
[Original map template by Sprinko.]

For example, let’s say we are in Normal chamber and we want to switch to grass chamber, then we actually have to open the stairs with the red dot on middle right.

NormaltoGrassChamber StairLockR
At certain floors on each chamber, there are stairs that lead to closed chambers with boxes in them, players call those ‘Fake Exits’ or ‘Fake Endings’, because if you get out from there, it doesn’t mean you beat the whole dungeon.
So, for beating the whole dungeon, you should reach the 99th floor of one chamber at least.

-Where are the chambers?

GettingtoTC
Tanren Chambers are located in the historical area near Tanren Plaza’s east gate, there’s an opening in the ground that leads to a corridor in the underground.

-Hints and instructions before getting started:

First things first, ‘Tanren Chambers’ is an advanced-level dungeon, so any Pokemon with levels less than 70 (in general) would be kinda useless there. (Unless we have at least one Pokemon higher than level 80).

Next is the team formation, everyone forms their own team with their own style, but I suggest the following:~

-Team Leader:
The weakest one, recommended to have good abilities, keep in mind that we only use this one as a last resort. (Lowest level)

-Major Runner:
The strongest and the most useful one, we use this to dash through the dungeon, so it’s recommended to know good moves (at least one AOE and Rest as well). (Lv70+)

-Minor Runner:
Has medium strength, recommended to be a Ghost Pokemon, we use this to run from enemies, getting items through blocked tiles and running to stairs when surrounded. It’s good to know Rest since its belly runs out very fast. (Lv50+)

-Supporter:
A Pokemon with useful status moves, like Refresh and Recycle. (Lv40+)

Now, the items... Since they aren't allowed to be brought there, we have to know how to use the ones we find well, especially; Apples and PP-recovering items.

-Apples: I only suggest eating ONE apple each time you start feeling hungry.

-PP items (Ethers, Leppa Berries and Elixirs): Just use them when ALL of your moves really need PP.

(Keep in mind you can’t use Elixirs while you’re paralyzed or asleep.)

And now, we’re ready to jump into the chambers.~

-A guide to every chamber:~

Normal Chamber

Normal_Chamber

*Overview:~

Generally, Normal is the easiest chamber for most players, as well as many supplies can be found there usually and they’re easy to get.
Normal Pokemon are kinda easy to beat and to deal with, but some like; Jigglybuff, Bidoof, Bibarel, Rattata, Raticate, Castform and Lopunny are really dangerous sometimes, and might even beat your Pokemon out of the blue!

Why those Pokemon are dangerous? Here’s the answer:

-Jigglybuff, Bidoof and Bibarel (Rollout spammers): These Pokemon can surround you and spam Rollout on your Pokemon, and Woot! Your Pokemon is fainted instantly.

-Rattata and Raticate (Super Fang): Can cut your HP down by half surprisingly, so be careful when dealing with those two.

-Castform (Powder Snow spammer): The move Powder Snow got a high chance in PMU to freeze the target, so spamming it may freeze your Pokemon and get surrounded by the other ones, which might cause the Rollout Pokemon to attack you.

-Lopunny (Mirror Coat): Actually it’s not dangerous, but it’s a different story for those who use high-leveled Pokemon with Special-moves, it can kill those Pokemon usually by one hit, and so, its effect is very similar to Destiny Bond.

*Recommended held-item:~ Since Normal is filled with “Trip Traps”, I don’t suggest using any held-item here.

Grass Chamber

Grass_Chamber

*Overview:~

Grass chamber! The home of status problems!
This chamber is quite easy for Fire-, Ice- and Flying-type users, but even though, they can really suffer from the status-moves-spammers there.
Some Pokemon there, like; Oddish, Paras, Parasect…etc, spam these status moves on your Pokemon, so you should have Pokemon with Refresh or Rest to resist their effects.
Also, you should notice an Earthquake spammer there too, which is Torterra.
Grass chamber is filled with “Poison Traps” as well.

*Recommended held-item:~ You may face some “Sleep Traps” and Pokemon that spam Sleep Powder, so make sure you have the “Insomniscope” equipped.

Prepare to be burned… That’s enough to describe this chamber. x3

Water Chamber

Water_Chamber

*Overview:~

This place is kinda harsh, you don’t expect the moves that Pokemon use here. :>_<:
In general, Water is pretty easy for anyone as long as the weather is Sunny. However, if it’s Rainy, it will be a great trouble for you.

We have some dangerous Pokemon here we should deal with them well, and those are:~

-Marill (Rollout spammer): Try to evade close encounters with this little water mouse. :3

-Politoed (Perish Song spammer): This is a critical trouble for those who use under-recommended-level Pokemon (Lv75 and below). If so, don’t make any action (even avoid using Rest), and just run to stairs.

-Castform (Powder Snow): They freeze your Pokemon and might make you to be out of action.

-Piplup/Prinplup/Emploeon (Whirlpool/Bubble Beam): Whirlpool immobilize your Pokemon, which makes it easier to get surrounded, so always try to evade close encounters with those Penguin tribe.
Also, Bubble Beam might be painful, especially when not expected, and due to its range, Pokemon in nearby rooms can actually attack you from there.

-Pelipper (Water Pulse spammer): Water Pulse has a good chance to confuse the target, and that alone makes things get worse in this chamber. :@~@:

*Recommended held-item:~ “Persim Band” or “Shed Shell”, due to confusion caused by Water Pulse, or immobilization caused by Whirlpool.

Electric Chamber

Electric_Chamber

*Overview:~

Electric chamber, (or Paralysis chamber in other words) is the home for many Electric-type Pokemon.
This place is somewhat hard, especially for those who use Water or Flying-type Pokemon. On the other hand, this chamber is filled with supplies usually (just like Dark and Normal chambers).
Pokemon with Volt Absorb, Motor Drive or Lightning Rod are highly recommended to use in there.

The problems we might face here, are:~

-Magnezone (Mirror Coat): just like Lopunny in Normal chamber, So always don’t use special-moves on them.

-Voltorb and Electrode (Selfdestruct/Explosion/Aftermath [ABILITY]): Try to keep away from those explosive balls as possible.

*Recommended held-item:~ It’s highly recommended holding “Persim Band” there, since some Pokemon here know Confuse Ray.

*Key Floors:~ B7F, B9F, B35F.

Dark Chamber

Dark_Chamber

*Overview:~

Dark chamber, as the name refers, it’s really hard to see the surrounding. (especially at high floors.)

Ghost Chamber

Ghost_Chamber

*Overview:~

Ghost… The chamber that everyone fears. :x.x:
Well, this chamber is kinda very evil (even for those who use Normal-type Pokemon), dashing through it requires about 90% of pure luck.

Wild Pokemon are the biggest problem here, because they know a lot of dangerous moves, (like; Destiny Bond, Spite, Mean Look, Confuse Ray, Ominous Wind…etc) and have some evil abilities. (Like; Cursed Body).
Hmm… Also in Ghost chamber, sometimes when you go to the next floor, you get spawned over a one-tile monster house… (Which means you are 75% dead… x.x)
Having a Pokemon with Teleport, or a Ghost Pokemon in your party is highly recommended there.

*Recommended held-item:~ “Persim Band”. (Although Shed Shell and Insomniscope are also useful there.)

*Key Floors:~ B65F, B67F (Hidden).

*Switch Points:~
B80F (Ground, Normal)

Ice Chamber

*Overview:~
[Written by Erlade.]

Ice has quite the mysterious factors revolving around it. It’s nearly impossible to beat the ice chamber with low levels and type weakness. Though even if you do have the type advantage, the notorious Pokemon will not spare you. Let’s have a look at what exactly can pose to be a dangerous threat

Delibird. Do I really have to say? Present spammin’ santa. Can immediately kill; Once again, no monster houses. Lapras; immense stats and huge movepool. The slippery ice in the ice chamber, though made as an obstacle, can be wisely used in your favor to escape dungeon chaos, and escape monster houses.

Apart from that, the ice chamber is not much of a problem, as long as you have a strong fire type, you’ll be okay.

Dragon Chamber

*Overview:~
[Written by Erlade.]

The dragon chamber is not usually much of a problem. It has been mapped in a way that foes can be escaped easily. However, there are a few pitfalls that one must avoid. Dragon chamber has a lot of psuedo Pokemon, Dragonite, Salamence etc. They can be a major threat if you plan on training. Though the exp is massive, sometimes Pokemon can easily gang up, so follow the LoS technique.

Iron tail can sometimes also be an issue, it is a great damage dealing move, and a lot of dragon types in the chamber posses it. In order to “counter a dragon, one must have a dragon”. So, if you plan on beating the dragon chamber, a dragon type is best suited. Preferably Salamence and Milotic (it’s not a dragon type, but it can learn dragon type moves, hence gaining a vast advantage).

-The secret of Mew:~ [Credits to Levy, dragonslayer1993 and me.]

[Thanks to Erlade for this epic banner.]

Well, in Tanren Chambers, Mew spawns on some certain floors (mostly the ones after the fake endings in the several chambers).

Sometimes it spawns invisible and you can’t even see it, it also knows the following moves:~
-Ally Switch
-Giga Drain
-Dragon Tail
-Safeguard

To attract Mew, you should have a Pokemon with Honey Gather ability (Combee/Teddiursa) in your party, and then access the floors mentioned above and use one Honey, the music will change and that means Mew have spawned on the floor.

Mew isn’t recruitable just like other Tanren Chambers’ Pokemon, but it has a small chance of dropping a Life Ring, the Family Item for Mew. It was added to TC as an award that PMU had 151 players online at the same time at once, and the number 151 is Mew’s national dex number by the way.

-Advanced In-dungeon Hints and Instructions:~

Here, some hints and techniques would be helpful to safely dash through the dungeon:~

#01: Always, choose the shortest path to reach your target.
Applying this in dungeon would be helpful to evade most encounters with dangerous Pokemon as well as saving the belly.

#02: Never make yourself the center of wild Pokemon’s attention.
Like fighting wild Pokemon randomly in a big room which gives them a chance to surround you.
Always run away from big Pokemon groups (monster houses) and apply technique #03.

#03: Line of Sight moves (LoS) and narrow places technique.
When you have to fight a big group of foes that you are not sure if you can take all of them down, this technique is very useful to deal with cases like that.

First, run away from the room and wait in the narrow path that leads to nearby rooms, wild Pokemon will start following you and they have to form a queue when they enter the path, then, you can take down one Pokemon each time, or the whole queue if you have moves like; Flamethrower, Solar Beam, Ice Beam…etc.
-Note: this technique is kinda useless in chambers that have fluids instead of walls, like Water chamber, and 100% useless in Ghost chamber.

#04: Never sprint by stairs, unless you really want to leave the floor.
Sometimes, you accidentally hit the stairs and notice you forget some stuff, like; keys and near-stairs supplies were on the previous floor.
So, always be careful while sprinting near stairs, and make sure you got every necessary item on the floor.

Great work Volty!
Keep up the good work.~

Oh yeah Volt, another reason why I love this, because it gives a clear route of fossils. Thanks a bunch! :D

It’s been a while since I’ve seen quite a well organized, well explained, and clear guide. Kudos to you and the effort that must’ve went into creating this. Surely, this guide will help many with the countless treasures Tanren Chambers has to over.

Oh, yay ! c: many new routes to go on for treasure hunting now. thanks a bunch, for the well organized guide Voltray.

This is very useful, Voltray. :joy: Thank you and good job!~

This is really nice guide you put together. TC is my favorite dungeon in pmu so far and this will help alot; thanks for making this guide.

At least now I won’t have ‘much’ trouble with TC for when it comes for fossils. x3

I’m glad to see my guide useful to you, even though I’m still working on some fossils routes which I’m not really sure about some of their parts, but I’ll be done with them once the game is running again.
And thanks a bunch for your comments.~ :joy:

Thanks a lot, Fokku.~ :joy:

Thank you, and I’m happy to hear this.~ :joy:

Haha x3
Thank you for commenting, Atuskia.~ :joy:

Glad to hear this, and thanks for your comment.~

Same for me, TC is my favourite dungeon since it was released and probably stay my favourite one forever c:
Thanks for your comment.~

Yeah, nice guide Volt.

Will you continue to update things like the Key Floors cos collecting a good list of those would help a lot? Cheers

Great Job! It was fun going with you and Fokussu! Thumbs up! C: Also, there is another (simpler) way to get the omnayte fossil!

-Exalted

Sure thing :o, once the game is running again, I’ll continue updating the guide with any new info.

Thanks, Exalted.~
You mean that route which you switch to water from ghost? :o
I think you noticed that I avoided listing routes including ghost chamber in them, you actually know why. X.X

wow volt thanks alot as soon as server comes back im going to TC :D now i got a great Guide.

Volt, even though I don’t go through TC, I still have to say this is an epic guide. :3

We need to do TC sometime, though. I fail there. XD

Oh my, nice guide Volt. It’s very well organized, in my opinion.~
And, I’m guessing it must’ve took a couple weeks to make this? Anyways, as I already said, nice guide! :joy:

Sure thing :o, once the game is running again, I’ll continue updating the guide with any new info.

Thanks, Exalted.~

lol yeah XD I know right! we failed like kazillion times in ghost, anyways it was fun, also I really recommend you do put it, because the reason why we weren’t successful in ghost was because you were a fire type (nintales) and I was always a water type (empoleon) though the team was nice, ghost was sorta difficult, but maybe “just maybe” someone out there, has a pokemon that will do well against ghosts, so you should put it!

Heal ribbon is also at grass chamber 59f

This is a nice guide Volt! Some errors though. Love taking your Electrizer route, done it four times and haven’t got any. :P Anyways, nice guide! You haz my support. x3
