Cutscene not triggering after beating a boss

This has happened to me three times now. Once because the party leader was defeated when the rest of us killed the boss, once because I leveled up and learned a new move from beating it, and once because the boss and my mon died at the same time.

What seems to happen is that the choice menu (“give up?”, “learn new move or keep old ones?”) overrides the boss cutscene, and as a result you get no reward nor any exit warp. Restarting the game seems to trigger the cutscene, but most people’s first instinct is to ask the staff for help to get out or use an escape orb/rope, so the cutscene instead triggers long afterward when you next turn on the game in a totally different area.
